Well, since the last post, a LOT has happened!! Avalyn is now 2 months old! She was 8 weeks old in this picture, which says 2 months, but technically she's not '2 months' till Oct. 6th. Nevertheless, I count it as 2 months old... As you can see, she is holding her head up very well now when in slanted tummy position, and can turn her head from side to side when completely flat on her tummy. She's not as 'breakable' feeling, which is nice, and you don't have to continually support her neck. This allows us to do a lot more fun stuff during our waketime :) This week she continues to not need the middle of the night feeding, but still habitually wakes up around 4:30 and 5:30, making noises and stirring. We pop the pacifier in and she's right back out. So, we're making progress.. but still not a continuous 8-9 hour stretch yet. Definitely 6 hours, sometimes 7 hours. She's right on track and doing great though. That week finished off my first week of work and it went very well. Pumping continues to be an annoying 'break' in the day, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do :) At least I am able to pump and provide her with the essential breast milk that's so good for her.
On Saturday, I went over to Drew's parent's house to help host and celebrate with Julie for her Bridal Shower. The wedding is creeping up quickly (December 12th) and we are getting excited for the special event. I was able to meet some of her family and friends and had a nice time with Drew's sister and new little boy, who's 3 weeks younger than Avalyn. Brandon was actually grouting our tile backsplash this day, but I happen to lock my keys in the car (blonde moment) and he had to come rescue me! It was kinda nice, b/c they all wanted to see Avalyn anyways :)
On Sunday, Oct. 4th, Ryan, Kelly, & Bella Santurri came over for dinner than night. Always nice to get together with friends. Bella is 23 months old and Kelly is expecting their 2nd child on Jan. 5th - I passed on some more maternity stuff for her to wear.
On Monday, Avalyn and I met up with our friends Megan and Holli (from the Mommy group) and went to Leu Gardens. On the first Monday of each month, they have a children's story time and then the gardens are free the whole day (every Monday actually). So, for 15 minutes we did more interactive song play with about 50 other children/mommies and then walked around the gardens. It was a really nice time and I'm looking forward to going again - especially when she's a little older with better neck control to get 'into' the songs they sang.That afternoon, Avalyn had her 2-month check-up with the doctor and got her first set of shots. She weighed in at 11 lbs, 5 oz., which is in the 75th percentile (what a pork chop!). She was 22 in long (50th %) and had a head circumference in the 50th percentile as well. Overall, she's doing FANTASTIC! Everything looked great and she's growing just as she should be. Then was the scary part... the SHOTS! She got 2 - the Deiphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP) and the Haemophilus Influenzae Type b (Hib) Vaccines. They do a really great job at the office - tag team and do one in each leg at the same time. She was such a trooper and only cried for about 10 seconds, and it wasn't really that bad of a cry. She was also very tired, so once back in her car seat, she zonked out immediately!! That night I was worried that she would get a fever or be fussy with pain, etc.... but NOTHING! It was great - I had heard such 'horror' stories of them waking in the middle of the night screaming with pain, fevers, etc... but she acted as if nothing had happened! Wonderful!!! I wonder if it's because our doctor doesn't give as many shots at one time as the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests... she spreads them out a little more to help their bodies accept them better... hmmm..
Friday night I went out to Kobe for a birthday dinner for a girl I work with. She's actually pregnant herself and is having a boy due on March 17th! Saturday, although very hot and humid, we went to the Winter Park Fall Art Festival for about an hour and walked around. Nothing exciting, but nice to get out and experience the outdoors. The pics above are after our outing and she was just all smiles!! LOVE IT!! We headed to Gander Mountain after the art festival (Brandon claims that's Avalyn's favorite store!) so Bran could get some scent blocker for his hunting adventures. He actually went out to his friend Tony's land later that afternoon and stayed the night out there in hopes of bringing home a hog or deer. Amber came over around 6pm to stay the night with me and Avalyn and we had dinner and watched the Gator game. Emme and her mom happen to be having dinner locally, so they stopped by for about an hour or so later on too! What a nice surprise! Today we went over to Diana's house for a bit to spend some time with Nona and watch the Buc game.
Milestones we've seen:
She can roll from her side to her back. Can hold her head up flat on her tummy and turn side to side. She can hold her head up in an upright position for a long time... She can stand up for about 5-10 seconds with support.. She smiles all the time :) She can imitate facial expressions - open mouth and sometimes tongue out. We think she laughed yesterday. She can track an object from side to side if walking in front of her. She's working on more acute visual tracking with her eyes vs. whole head moving. She's grasping things with her hands (mostly just your fingers or my shirt/strap) and she sucks on her hand/fingers sometimes.
